ADC Online

Privacy Statement

Privacy Statement as part of Terms of Business

We and all other online businesses that collect information about their visitors, (that would be just about all online businesses) are required, by law, to declare that they are collecting information and how they safeguard that information. That also includes information that is not specifically identifiable to any one individual or group. If you would like more information about the Canadian laws that govern online privacy, you can find it here: http://www.priv.gc.ca/legislation/02_06_01_e.cfm

We have tried to make this policy as simple as possible so it’s easy to understand and easy to convey our message about privacy. We, at ADC Online collect personal information from our customers in the regular course of doing business. This document outlines how we’re protecting the information you entrust to us.

First off, we only collect the minimum amount of information about you. Why? Well to put it bluntly, the guy that looks after privacy for ADC Online is a paranoid freak. That’s why we put him in charge of the privacy policy. We figured if it was ok with him, than just about everyone else should be ok with it too.

He hates it when he has to give away personal information online. He’s always wondering what people that he has never met will do with his information. Sometimes he stays up at night wondering if he should have made that blog post with his actual IP address or if he should have masked it with an IP in Tibet. Our privacy golden rule: We treat your information the way we would want our own information treated, with respect, due diligence, and sensibility.

What personal information does ADC Online collect about me?

When you make a purchase or when you sign up as an affiliate, we collect the following information about you:

  • Name
  • Phone Number
  • Email
  • Address

It’s generally accepted that these fields are required in an online transaction or to be an affiliate.

When you make a purchase we will usually have communication with you either before or after a sale or both. Our services are customized so we need to know what you would like regarding our services. So, it’s logical and necessary that at this point we collect more information about you. That could be information similar but not limited to:

  • Opinions
  • Volume of sales
  • Sales history and types of sales
  • Data and other information specific to us completing a service for you

Again, the paranoid freak privacy guy only wants to collect enough information to get the job done…that’s it. He wouldn’t be comfortable telling you his life story, the name of his high school sweetheart, the combination to his brief case, etc. So he wouldn’t ask you for any more than he would want to be asked for himself. But he’s a chatty and friendly guy so if you really want to tell him about your high school romances, go ahead, he won’t tell anyone.
When you visit our web site, or pretty much any other website, some information that is not necessarily specifically identifiable to you is collected as well:

  • Information about your computer, including your IP address, the type of operating system and browser you use, your Internet Service Provider, and your computer’s geographic location
  • How you linked to our site
  • The duration of time you remain on a page and/or site
  • The time and date you were on our site
  • In the case of an affiliate link, the specific link you clicked to get to our site.

This is pretty standard stuff and very popular with hoards of websites on the net. Website analytic programs collect this kind of information all the time. If you would like more information on website analytics and what kind of information they collect, click here: http://www.google.com/privacy.html

We will not disclose any information that you ask us to keep confidential, and we will not disclose financial information unless you ask us to do so.

How does ADC Online get my consent?

When you provide us with personal information to complete a transaction, place an order, or sign up for an affiliate program, we assume you consent to our collecting it and using it for that specific reason. However, by purchasing a product or service from ADC Online you will agree to also allow us to use your personal information for our marketing purposes and any other purpose outlined in the segment “How does ADC Online use this information?” above. You do have an opportunity to say no. Saying no is called “opting out.” By opting out, you can tell us not to collect the information and/or not to share it with other companies. You can email us directly, or when you receive our newsletter, there will be an opt out link at the bottom of that newsletter.

Just the same, we also understand if you don’t want your information used for any other purpose than a purchase. Having said that, should you not want your information be used for any of the reasons stated in the “How does ADC Online use this information?” section, (such as a delivery by a courier, or maybe a sub contract to a third party), you must inform us immediately prior to purchase or you will be liable for any costs we incurred as a result of the fact that we could not share your information.

How do I get more information?

We will be happy to answer any questions you may have about your personal information. If you would like more information about our policies, or you would like to see exactly what personal information we have about you in our records, or you wish to register a complaint, please contact:
